October Powder on Two Ocean

Opening Day: Wyoming Powder Season
Two Ocean Mountain, Togwotee Pass
October 21, 2007

Matt takes a look Two Ocean mountain from the parking area off Togwotee Pass.

Seems like every season starts on Two Ocean. So far, this year is looking much better than last. I'm not sure I've ever opened my pow season before November- but after hearing about a few days of good skiing Matt scored already- it was hard to resist. Plus, my hunting seasons don't open until November anyway. Matt had to make a hard decision though- closing day of his elk season, or opening day of Shad's powder season. Hhhhmmm. Matt thought, "It doesn't quite barbeque like elk, but you can still eat it... right? I think I can live off it." "Powder, it is then!", I agreed. At 9pm that Saturday night, plans were made to get up early Sunday and bag some trophy turns- the first of the season for me.

Ooooooooo....... powder.

Conditions were looking stellar on our way up.

Tucked behind our favorite wind block, we could hardly wait.

A skis view, looking west from the top of Two Ocean Mt.

The guy in the skis.

Powder?

October powder?

Unbelievable!

And bottomless!

I tried, but I just couldn't wipe that grin off. Sorry!

Here's why...

Matt followed me down the hill for a few turns.

Dropping from the top of Two Ocean.

A look back up at my line from the top.

Matt's turn.

Knee, almost waist deep pow, in October no less!

Weeehooo!

Matt eyes a Boone and Crocket line.

Then shoots it!

What a way to end the day.

Seven plus hours, five full mountain runs, and 5000 vertical feet later, we called it a day and started the juant home.

What a way to kick off the powder season! If it keeps up like this, it'll be hard to get serious about hunting again. Ha!

This is what I slept like when I got home.

Sweet dreams!
