Cony Mountain Run

Cony Mountian Run February 12th, 2006

Me, making my way up Cony Mountain. Going solo again.

My boot track along a cliff band on Cony Mountain. I wonder why no one will ever go with me?

The line down. I dropped from the highest part of the cliff band, in the shadows. It's a line I did few times last year. The snow was okay, not as good as last weekend though. Plus this side of the divide just doesn't have as much snow as it did last year.

A view of the line from distance. Click on the photo and you'll see it. It's a big ol' line!

After that, I cruised over to ridge line run that was alot of fun last year. Still was this year too!!

Looking down the ridge line run.

Looking at part of the ridge line run from and angle. I made a couple of runs.

A view of the ridge line run from a ways away. If you click on the photo and zoom in- you may be able to make out the tracks.

A view of Silas Canyon on my way in. My objective for the day was actually the big mountain on the right, and a huge nifty bowl tucked in behind it (you can't see it from this photo). My plan didn't quite work though. There hasn't been the snow up Sinks Canyon that there usually is, so the trail I'm used to motoring up Blue Ridge had not been busted in yet, or it had been a great while since it was last ridden. I was only able to get about a mile in before it was all powder and no track to follow. That's about 5 miles short of what I usually could do. I got the polaris stuck several times trying to bust in further. I waisted hours of time and lots of energy doing digging the bugger out. Eventually I gave up and settled for a long skin. The extra miles meant I had to settle for closer, more familiar country though. I was too tired to go exploring further. Bummer. Oh well. Now that I know this, I have a new idea for reaching some of the stuff in Silas Canyon. Guess you'll have to stay tuned to see how that pans out.

A view of Christina Lake from the back side (SW) of Cony Mt. The weather was awesome. Very toasty and no wind. Couldn't ask for better weather!

Another view of Silas Canyon from a different angle. Looks like a whole slough of nifty couliours.

Not quite powder, not quite corn. Whatever it was, it was still pretty fun to ski in. Glad I took the skis though. The skin in and out would have been slower with the split board.

One last view of the Silas Canyon on my way out. Like I mentioned before... a flock of big lines and couloirs awaits. I have yet another way of getting in there too, that I haven't tried yet. If all else fails, I guess there'll be something for June and July.
